CACTUS & SUCCULENT

Orchid Cactus

TEMPERATURE 40–75°F (4–24°C) LIGHT Bright indirect
HUMIDITY Moderate CARE Average HEIGHT & SPREAD 24 x 24in (60 x 60cm)
With its flat, thin, scallop-edged stems, this tropical cactus is ideal for a hanging basket in a bright room. In spring, the plant’s large, red, funnel-shaped flowers are the real stars of the show.

WATERING Water regularly from spring to early fall, allowing the soil to dry out before watering to avoid root rot. Keep plants barely moist in winter. Mist occasionally with unsoftened water during hot summers.
FEEDING Apply a half-strength, highpotassium fertilizer once every 2 weeks from spring to summer.
PLANTING AND CARE Plant in a 4in (10cm) pot or basket in epiphytic cactus potting soil (or a 4:1 mix of aerated potting soil and sharp sand). Ideally, keep this cactus in bright indirect light and between 60–75ºF (16–24ºC) in the day and 40–55ºF (4–12ºC) at night from spring to fall. In winter, move to a cool, low-light room, then return to bright indirect light in spring. Plants flower best when root-bound, so do not repot.
