ALBUCA SPIRALIS FRIZZLE SIZZLE care tips

An amazing plant not to be missed, the corkscrew albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ has fast-growing, tightly spiralling dark green leaves. The flower spike, which shoots up through the foliage in late winter or early spring, holds dainty fragrant yellow and green nodding flowers. In summer, when dormant, the foliage will disappear below the surface.

TEMPERATURE 5–30°C (41–86°F)

WATERING From autumn to late spring when plants are in growth, water sparingly, applying it only when the top of the compost feels dry; plants will curl more in drier conditions. When dormant in summer, keep almost dry, then water more frequently when growth appears in the autumn.
FEEDING Apply a general-purpose granular fertilizer in autumn at half the dose recommended on the label.
COMPOST Plant in bulb compost, or a 50:50 mix of loam-based compost and 4mm grit.
FLOWERING Flowers appear on plants given sufficient water and a little fertilizer.
PROPAGATION Plant bulbs in autumn or divide existing plants.
COMMON PROBLEMS These plants will rot in wet compost. Few pests affect them.
